Why does ageing have to have a gender in entertainment business?
Actors can age, but actresses cannot- This is a frequent principle in show business, where most female artists are subjected to clichéd queries like 'How does it feel like acting at your age' and 'How does it feel like romancing a younger artiste at your age'. When actresses approach their forties and fifties, they are bombarded with degrading inquiries. Due to social stigma, some actors seek to conceal their age, while others want to showcase it.
Rituparna
Sengupta arrived in Bangladesh on August 12 to film her film "Sporsho,"
in which she will star alongside Nirab Hossain. During the press
conference, the National award-winning actress was asked outrageous
questions about her age by a journalist. Some of the questions he posed
were: "How are you still a heroine at the age of 52?" "How do you stay
in shape at the age of 52, when most Bangladeshi artistes lose their
heroine status by the age of 30-35?"
Rituparna was immediately enraged and responded angrily to the journalist.
"What
kind of inquiry is that?" I'm not 52 yet, and no one should question a
girl her age or a man his wage. This is quite disrespectful. "I'll
leave immediately if you don't edit this question," the actress said.
Sreelekha
Mitra, another well-known Kolkata actress, celebrated her 51st birthday
at home yesterday because she is currently sick with Dengue. Today, the
actress shared a status in which she subtly scolded Rituparna for being
shy of embracing her age and chastised males who ask such questions.
"I've
heard heroines never age." Do you believe they're from other planets? I
turned 51 yesterday, having completed 50 years, and I am really pleased
of myself. "However, if you ask me what my inner child's age is, it's
definitely 15," the actress stated.
"Come
on peeps, the most obvious natural process is aging." Ageing is a
beautiful thing. One must learn to like the same and to be
self-confident. Trolls continue to make age-related comments about
women. I just have one thing to say to them: "Get a life!" Because of
males like you, women continue to hide their age.
Nonetheless,
it hurts me to see ladies lying or concealing their true age. Women who
conceal their age are not powerful. "Don't let society control your
voice, and speak out against ageism," the actress ended.
Bollywood
actresses are subjected to their fair share of age-related snark.
Kareena Kapoor and Malaika Arora, who are close friends, have recently
been the target of age shaming.
Kareena
Kapoor turned 41 in 2021, and she celebrated by posting a no-makeup
photo on Instagram with her husband, Saif Ali Khan. However, social
media users were ready to pass judgment, labeling Kareena "old" for
posting an image with no filter on a social media platform.
Many people have informed the actress that she appears to be older than Saif Ali Khan, who is ten years her senior.
However,
Kareena Kapoor is not the first celebrity who has faced criticism for
her age or for publishing a photo of herself without a filter. Malaika
Arora has already been chastised for appearing "too old," with many
stating that she "should act her age" simply because she dresses in
shorts.
When
it comes to Bollywood stars, though, the scenario is completely
reversed. Grey hair is a typical problem that many artists face. When
actors embrace their grey hair, they are commonly referred to as the
"Silver Fox" or "flaunting salt-and-pepper hair look." However, when
Sameera Reddy embraced her grey hair, many people said she looked like a
"white witch" or asked, "Why aren't you dying your hair?" You appear to
be getting older."
Actresses
have had to deal with the conventional beauty standards that society
has imposed on them time and again. They must remain attractive and fit,
with lush black hair, because becoming older reduces your chances of a
career in show business. How long should misogynist remarks about
actresses be tolerated? And when will this act of ageism end?
